Notifying the University of Your Intent to Graduate

The 7 Steps Toward Graduation
An overview of the entire graduation process. 

1. Submit your Graduation Intent Form (GIF) on Patriot Web by clicking on "Student Services & Financial Aid" and then "Graduation Intent.

  • Those who wish to graduate on August 9, 2008 or January 10, 2009 must file their Intent to Graduate on Patriot Web IMMEDIATELY.

2. Complete the mandatory Student Survey. You may complete the survey when you file your intent to graduate or during your final semester.

3. All doctoral and graduate certificate students, as well as some Master's students (additional information below), must submit the Doctoral, Master's, or Certificate paper graduation application to their respective academic department by the published deadlines.The deadline for Summer 2008 candidates was April 7. 2008 and the deadline for Fall 2008 is July 18, 2008. Please select the appropriate form(s) from the list below.

The Graduation Department is actively working on creating electronic degree audits for all
academic programs at George Mason. EFFECTIVE SPRING 2008, only students who are graduating from Master's programs listed below
ARE REQUIRED to submit the separate paper graduation application along with the electronic Graduation Intent Form. All other Master's level and now have on-line degree evaluations available through Patriot Web! (PhD candidates must submit the paper graduation application.)

  • MS Computer Engineering
  • MS E-Commerce
  • MS Electrical Engineering
  • MS Information Security and Assurance
  • MS Information Systems
  • ALL programs in the College of Health and Human Services

 

EFFECTIVE SPRING 2008, students graduating from certificate programs listed below are
NOT REQUIRED to submit the separate paper graduation application - they need only to submit the electronic graduation intent form on Patriot Web.. All other certificate candidates must submit the paper graduation application.

  • Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis (College of Education)
  • Graduate Certificate in Emotional Disturbance/Learning Disabilities Licensure (College of Education)
  • Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science (College of Science)
  • Undergraduate Certificate in Accounting (School of Management)


4. Department Review and Approval due back in the Registrar’s office.

5. Final Review by Registrar's Office.

6. Degree Conferral: 5/17/2008, 8/9/2008, 1/10/2009

7 . Official Transcripts and Diplomas
Transcripts showing conferred degrees will be available beginning on the conferral date as degrees are evaluated and posted. Diplomas will be mailed 5-8 weeks after each conferral date.

** Please note - the Graduation Department will only contact a student if there is a problem with your application! Please refer to your unofficial transcript on Patriot Web. When all reviews are complete, your transcript will indicate that you have officially graduated. **
