- We strongly encourage students to meet with an academic advisor during the semester prior to graduation. Establishing a relationship with your advisor early on will help ensure a smoother degree conferral process. Advisors can help you decide which courses to take, inform you on how to declare a concentration, drop a minor, transfer credit hours from other institutions, and everything in between. Most relevant to the Graduation Department, advisors inform us of special circumstances a student may have that could possibly hinder degree conferral. Academic advisors are excellent resources for all graduating students.
- Perform your own degree evaluation on Patriot Web to monitor your progress as a student. This tool will help you determine which courses you need to take, which requirements you have left to fulfill, as well as provide you with information on whether or not certain classes are being counted as you intend them to be. If you see that you are not in compliance with the degree evaluation, speak with your academic advisor ASAP.
- Check your contact information on Patriot Web. Make sure that your diploma address is correct. Keep in mind that we will not mail diplomas until 5-8 weeks after each conferral date.
- Submit your Intent to Graduate (GIF) by the published deadline ASAP. If you missed the deadline, you must file your intent immediately. Students who file after the deadline may not receive their diploma in the timeframe mentioned above.
- Make sure you are registered during your semester of graduation! It is University Academic Policy that students must be actively registered during the term of degree conferral. If you will not be taking any classes during your final term, the Special Registration Form will fulfill this requirement.
*The Special Registration cannot be used by graduate students working on their Thesis or Dissertation.*
- *EXCEPTION: Graduation candidates who miss the library deadline for thesis or dissertation submission, but do submit officially before the next semester begins, do not have to register for 799 or 999 in that semester, but may stay active through Special Registration.
