Consortium Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the Consortium for cross-registration?
The cross-registration process permits students enrolled in degree programs
at one institution to register for a course that is being offered at
another institution which is a member participant.
2. What schools participate in this program?
American University, Catholic University, Gallaudet University, George
Mason University, George Washington University, Georgetown University,
Howard University, Joint Military Intelligence College, Marymount University,
National Defense University, Southeastern University, Trinity College,
University of the District of Columbia, and the University of Maryland
in College Park. (The Joint Military College and National Defense University
are not yet participating in cross-registration).
3. Where do I go for more information about the program?
Both our catalog and schedule contain information pertaining to the
entire process. Further information can be obtained in the Consortium
Office in the Office of the Registrar/Room 3, North Chesapeake Module.
4 . How can I find out what courses are offered at other
institutions?
Updated schedules and catalogues from all universities within the Consortium
are located in the Consortium Office. Updated schedules are also now
available on the internet. You do not need to write to the other institutions.
5. Can I take as many courses as I would like through the
Consortium?
No. Students are limited as to the number of courses they may register
for in a semester as well as within a graduate or undergraduate career.
Coursework is also subject to the requirements of the particular school
in which a student is enrolled. All coursework attempted by the Mason
student must be authorized by the appropriate dean and chair of thedepartment
of their major.

Yes, approved registration requests must be received in the Consortium
office no later than two weeks prior to the beginning of the semester
at George Mason University.
7 . What tuition do I pay?
George Mason students pay the George Mason tuition rate to the George
Mason Student Accounts Office. You are billed as if you are taking the
course at Mason. George Mason students who are also employees are not
permitted to use the "employee waiver" for Consortium cross-registration.
8 . What about my grade?
The grade is treated as resident credit...ie..as if you have taken the

of your grade. It calculates into your George Mason University grade
point average. The grade and course will appear on your George Mason
transcript. It is not treated as a transfer credit.

for courses within the AFROTC program?
