Monday February 15 and Tuesday, February 16 before 12pm

An unusual number of delays and closures have occurred this semester due to inclement weather. We have already compressed the final exam schedule and used the reading days to account for previous closures, and we are doing our best to provide faculty with the tools, time, and classrooms to accommodate any additional missed class periods.

For the closure on Monday, February 15th; the late opening on Tuesday, February 16th; and for any future cancelled class sessions, each faculty member may choose the most appropriate make-up alternative for their class.

There are several options for making up missed instructional time, including:

  • Schedule a make-up class at another time acceptable to class members. Faculty members should contact the department scheduling coordinator to schedule a classroom.  A list of department scheduling coordinators can be found at: https://registrar.gmu.edu/topics/scheduling-coordinators/
  • Offer an online class session. Faculty members needing guidance on developing online content or recording lecture material should contact courses@gmu.edu.  Additionally, online resources  for “emergency-proofing” courses are available at:  http://doit.gmu.edu/faculty-and-staff/emergency-proof-course/
  • Accommodate for missed instructional time by consolidating material during the remaining class meeting times.

All faculty must notify their students as soon as possible regarding the option which will be used to make up the class period. Students should be prepared to participate in the alternate instructional activities planned by their faculty members instead of attending face-to-face class sessions when circumstances prevent on-campus instruction.

We appreciate your patience, flexibility, and understanding.

Thursday, January 21 to Friday, January 29

Instructors whose classes were canceled on the following days or meet only during the first half of the semester are asked to arrange make-ups on an ad hoc basis. Requests for make-up classrooms should be made through your department’s scheduling coordinator, who will work with the Office of the University Registrar to secure an appropriate classroom.

  • Thursday, January 21 before 10:30am
  • Friday, January 22

For classes canceled on Monday, January 25, the make-up day is Wednesday, May 4.  Instructors do not need to submit an ad-hoc request to schedule their classroom.

For classes canceled on Tuesday, January 26, the make-up day is Tuesday, May 3.  Instructors do not need to submit an ad-hoc request to schedule their classroom.
