Does the Scheduling Office switch or remove classrooms?

Once initial room assignments are released, the Scheduling Office will never take a room away from a section unless:

  • The Scheduling Office is asked to find a larger room to clear a waitlist. The Scheduling Office has the authority to switch the section with another section that is in a larger room but has a smaller enrollment.
  • The Scheduling receives an ADA request for a specific type of classroom and has to switch sections.
  • A section has ‘0’ enrollment after the last day to add. In this case, the Scheduling Office will cancel the section to make the room available.
  • A section is hidden on Patriot Web before registration. Departments will often create ‘shadow’ sections which they intend to open only if their open sections overfill. If we receive a class request at a time when a ‘shadow’ section is scheduled, the Scheduling Office will cancel a section that is not open for registration.

Classrooms assignments, however, are subject to change. Instructors are always advised to consult Patriot Web the day of their first class to confirm their teaching location. The room assignment listed on Patriot Web reflects where the class should be meeting.
