Chosen Name Display and Uses

While Mason will strive to make sure that its systems and applications use both chosen name and pronouns, please understand that Mason may or may not be able to, in instances where the system or application is not controlled by the University. The grids below detail where this information will be shared.

As the Chosen Name and Pronouns Policy is in the early stages of implementation, this list is incomplete and will be updated as systems, applications, and services are reviewed.

Systems Reviewed to Display Chosen Name

Once students or employees provides a chosen name, some systems will display it immediately, depending on the system. Each system will be evaluated individually in consultation with administrators of those systems. The following systems have ether been reviewed or will be reviewed to support chosen names and pronouns. Systems and applications that cannot display chosen name may contain a link for additional explanation as to why the system or application will not display chosen name or pronouns.

Services that use Legal Name and/or Chosen Name

While chosen name will be used in University business where feasible, some processes or services may require the use of the student’s or employee’s legal name. These are services that have been reviewed or will be reviewed to either use legal, chosen first name, or both.
