Mason Core Exceptions Workflow
Beginning in November 2025, undergraduate advisors can use the Mason Core Exceptions Workflow to submit exceptions requests for Mason Core courses. The steps to “Request an Exception” will remain the same, but users will instead select “Mason Core Exceptions Workflow” in the drop-down selections option under “New Requests”.
Supporting Documentation, such as syllabi, catalog information, emails, memos, etc., will now be required to submit an exception. Users can also add additional information in the internal notes section, which will be optional.

Once the exception has been requested, it will be routed to the student’s College for the first approval step. After the request has been approved by the college, it will be routed to the Mason Core Approval team and then the Office of the University Registrar’s Office for final processing.

At each step, approvers will have the option to add additional documentation and/or notes. If an approver denies the request, a justification for the denial is required.

Once the exception is fully approved, it will appear on the student’s audit.
